Built to Last
Some people find their calling. I built mine from the ground up.
I founded JMitchell Resilient Homes because of a phone call I received in November 2018. My kids were in college at Chico State University when the Camp Fire started. They called to describe what they were watching a sky turned black at noon, streets flooding with people who had nowhere to go, a town disappearing in a single morning. They were not in the fire's path. But they were close enough to understand what it meant. Eighty-five people died. Nearly 19,000 structures were destroyed. The town of Paradise a community of 27,000 people, built over generations was gone. That phone call stayed with me. And it changed what I decided to build.
As Founder, Developer, and Building Designer of JMitchell Resilient Homes, I create beautiful, enduring homes that are as stunning as they are strong. My roots in construction run deep I grew up in the family concrete business, learning firsthand that concrete is the foundation of everything that lasts.
That hands-on upbringing evolved into a career at the forefront of concrete materials and design. During the rapid Silicon Valley construction boom of the early 2000s, I played an integral role in the design and specification of concrete materials for over 2.5 million cubic yards poured across the region helping shape the physical landscape of one of the most ambitious building eras in California history.
My expertise grew to encompass project management, client representation, and large-scale commercial construction oversight. In one of my most defining roles, I led a landmark campus development project serving as the client, championing low-carbon concrete solutions that dramatically reduced construction carbon footprint and set a new sustainability standard that rippled across the entire Silicon Valley building industry.
That lifelong mastery of concrete's role in structural longevity is exactly why I build with insulated concrete construction, 6-inch steel-reinforced concrete walls cast within continuously insulating EPS forms, and 3-coat acrylic stucco, delivering 4-hour fire-rated protection, PG&E Zero Net Energy status, significantly lower insurance premiums, and minimal maintenance costs.
A JMitchell home isn't just a place to live. It's a resilient sanctuary crafted to protect your family, hold its value, and pass with pride to the next generation.
Today JMitchell Resilient Homes operates on two complementary tracks: developing concrete homes on properties JMitchell owns; designing, engineering, and bringing them to market, and consulting for clients who own their own land and want the same expertise applied to their project.
